A case has been filed against four journalists in Lakshmipur under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for publishing a report in a local daily and sharing it on social media.

Raipur Municipality Mayor Md Ismail Khokon, also the general secretary of Raipur upazila unit Awami League, filed the case on Saturday.

Raipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Jalil confirmed the matter.

The accused are AKM Mizanur Rahman, editor and publisher of Daily Banglar Mukul, its Executive Editor Afroza Akter Ranga, SN Uddin Riad, Raipur (Lakshmipur) correspondent of Mohona TV, and Jahirul Islam Titu, Raipur (Lakshmipur) correspondent of Asian TV.

According to the case statement, a report published in the newspaper on October 28 involving the mayor is false and fabricated.

The report also tarnished his reputation, it said.

The editor of the daily said: "There was a typo in the report and we corrected it the next day. We also apologized for it. Even then the case was filed intentionally."

OC Jalil said they are investigating the lawsuit.

Meanwhile, Lakshmipur Press Club President Hossain Ahmed Helal and General Secretary Abdul Malek condemned the matter demanding withdrawal of the case.
