A Sylhet court placed Titu Chandra Das -- a constable who was suspended in connection with the death of Rayhan Ahmed in custody -- on remand for the second time on Sunday.

The court of Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman granted a three-day remand for Titu after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) -- in charge of the investigation of Rayhan's case -- produced him in front of the court.

Amulya Kumar Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Titu was previously remanded for five days which came to an end on Friday. Police arrested him from Sylhet police lines on Tuesday.

Rayhan Ahmed, was reportedly beaten to death on October 11, in police custody at the Bandar Bazar police outpost. According to the autopsy report, he had 111 injury marks and two of his nails were pulled off.

However, police denied the murder allegation put forward by the family, saying that he was caught by locals while mugging and was lynched. Police said they had found Rayhan wounded from the mob lynching and then taken him to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

On October 12, Rayhan's wife filed a case under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention) Act 2013 with Sylhet Kotwali police station.

So far, four policemen were suspended from their posts in connection with Rayhan's death, including the key suspect Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, who is currently on the run.

Excluding Akbar, the suspended policemen are: Assistant Sub-Inspector Touhid Miya, Constable Titu and another constable Harunur Rashid all of Bandarbazar police outpost.

Moreover, another sub-inspector of the outpost, Hasan Uddin, was suspended as he helped Akbar escape and is accused of concealing information.

Of the suspended constables, Harunur  has been placed on a five-day remand on Saturday.
