The accused, who is currently on the run, had the woman under his clasp since he scammed the woman out of Tk7 lakh back in 2007
In a shocking incident, a woman has reportedly been raped on multiple occasions over the span of 13 years in Gazipur by her neighbour, who allegedly have been using blackmail and threats to keep her quiet about the heinous crimes.
The matter came to light when the woman from Kaliganj upazila filed a case with the local police station in this regard on Friday.
The accused Md Faruk, 45, who is currently on the run, had the woman under his clasp since he scammed the woman out of Tk7 lakh back in 2007, said Kaliganj police station Inspector (Operation) Mozammel Hoque, quoting the case statement.
The case statement further reads that the woman lived with her son in Kaliganj. Her husband, who is an expatriate working abroad since 1995, visited them once every three years or so. In 2007, Faruk scammed the woman out of Tk7 lakh, promising to buy her a piece of land in Dhaka.
Since then, Faruk made inappropriate advances and at one point raped her for the first time and threatened to kill her only son if she disclosed the matter to anyone. The woman, wanting her son’s safety and the money returned back to her, kept quiet even after she was raped on multiple occasions, of which the most recent incident took place on September 24.
The woman’s son, a university student in Dhaka, describing the incident in a Facebook post, said him and his mother were in immediate danger and sought justice from the authorities concerned.
His cry for help comes after the most recent incident on Thursday, when Faruk broke into their home and attempted to rape his mother while he was home, the case statement further mentioned.
When the young man intervened and saved his mother, Faruk threatened the woman that he would slit her son’s throat and left the scene.
Kaliganj police station Inspector (Operation) Mozammel Hoque while confirming a case has been recorded in this regard, said that the woman is undergoing medical examinations. Meanwhile, the accused is currently on the run.
“Police are trying to arrest the accused as soon as possible as the complainants’ lives are in danger,” he added.
