The Forensic Medical Board of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital (SOMCH) has found in a second autopsy report that Rayhan died due to injuries he sustained from a blunt weapon.

The medical board found similarities between the first autopsy report and the second one.

Dr Shamsul Islam, head of the Forensic Medical Board, said excessive injuries had caused Rayhan’s death and his injuries were from a blunt weapon.

He was speaking after handing over the autopsy report to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating agency, at around 1pm on Thursday.

In the first autopsy report, the doctors found 111 injury marks on Rayhan’s body. Of them, 14 were serious injuries.

According to that autopsy report,  two of Rayhan’s fingernails were found removed. Such torture was carried out on him 2 to 4 hours before his death.

The hospital authorities handed over the first autopsy report to the police on October 15.

On October 11, Rayhan Ahmed, 34, a resident of Akharia in Sylhet city, was beaten to death in police custody, said the family of the victim.

His wife Tahmina Akter Tanni filed a case with Kotwali police station the following day, accusing a number of unidentified people of the crime.

Police initially rejected the allegation and said Rayhan had been caught by locals of Kastghar area during a robbery and was lynched by them.

Ultimately, the case was transferred to the PBI.
