Police on Sunday evening arrested two people from Bandarban in connection with the gang rape of a 24-year-old woman.
The arrestees were identified as Rafiq and Zihad, presumed to be above 25 years of age, are the residents of ward no 9 under Bandarban municipal, said Bandarban Sadar police station Officer-in Charge (OC) Md Shahidul Islam.
The arrest came after the rape survivor filed a case with the Bandarban Sadar police station accusing Joynal, Rafiq, and Zihad of Bandarban municipal at noon.
However, the prime accused Joynal is a fugitive on the run.
According to police, on Saturday night, the accused Joynal brought the woman to a hilly area at Sikdarpara area of ward no 9 under Bandarban municipality, saying he had an important matter to share with her.
Later, Rafiq and Zihad reached the spot and took turns to rape the woman while the prime accused Joynal filmed the incident.
The accused later threatened the rape survivor to release the video on Facebook if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
However, on Sunday afternoon, the woman filed a case with Sadar police station accusing Joynal, Rafiq and Zihad.
Commenting on the matter, Bandarban Sadar police OC Shahidul, said: “We have already arrested two accused and are trying to arrest the other accused.”
