The alleged rape incidents had taken place on October 7
Police on Thursday arrested the prime accused in a case filed in connection with the rape and gang rape of a woman in Araihazar upazila, Narayanganj.
The arrested is Akbar Ali; the others accused in the case are Mostofa, 55, Anarul, 40, Liton, 32, Torikul Islam, 35, and Shahin, 32.
Araihazar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
On October 7, the 45-year-old woman was initially raped by the prime accused Akbar Ali inside a shop at Anis market of the upazila, according to police and the case details.
When she informed three locals, also accused Mostofa, Anarul, and Liton of the matter, they gang-raped her after taking her to an isolated place. The three later called Shahin and Tarikul, both of whom raped the woman in turns in an under-construction building that night.
The woman is a mother and a widow. She initially suppressed the incident and later lodged a case with the police station on October 14, when locals got to know of the incident.
OC Nazrul Islam said police are trying to arrest the rest of the accused in the case.
