A schoolboy, who was kidnapped two days ago, was found dead at Kakab in Birualia of Savar, on the outskirts of the capital early Wednesday.
The deceased Mehedi Hasan, son of Kabir Hossain was a first-grade school student from Barisal.
Police said Mehedi and his parents used to live at the rented house of one Abdul Karim in Kakab area.
On Monday, Jashim and Anika, two neighbours of Mehedi, kidnapped the boy and handed him over to one Arman.
Later, they made a call to Kabir demanding Tk50,000 as ransom, said Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Savar Model police station.
Although the victim’s father paid the kidnappers Tk15,000 through bKash they still strangled the boy with a rope and dumped the body.
When the victim’s father Kabir filed a case with Savar Model police station, the police managed to arrest suspects Jasim and Anika by tracking their mobile phone.
Following their confessional statement, police recovered the body of the schoolboy and sent it to a morgue for a post-mortem examination.
