A youth has been arrested while trying to rape a 17-year-old mentally challenged girl in Narsingdi.
Police arrested Toukir, 21, after a case was filed by the victim’s mother at the Palash police station in the early hours of Saturday.
Officer-in-Charge of the police station Sheikh Md Nasir Uddin confirmed the matter.
The accused is the son of Ripon Sarker of Gajaria union in the district.
According to family members of the girl, no one was home at the time, when Toukir entered the house and forced himself on the girl.
The girl started screaming loudly at the time, and one of her cousins who was nearby rushed to her rescue and found Toukir there. He immediately informed the police who came and took the accused Toukir to the police station, they said.
“We are taking legal action against the accused,” the OC said.
