Netizens have become critical as a photo showing Bogra-7 lawmaker Md Rezaul Karim Bablu brandishing a newly-purchased gun goes viral after it was posted on Facebook.
Regarding the matter on Friday, Sanatan Chakroborty, additional superintendent of police (ASP) in Bogra, said: “It is clearly mentioned in the condition of issuing firearms license that weapons cannot be displayed unnecessarily.
Bogra Public Prosecutor Abdul Matin said no firearms could be displayed without a reason. “So posting pictures with firearms is a clear violation of the Firearms Licence, Renewal and Usage Act-2016.”
Contacted, MP Md Rezaul Karim Bablu claimed he had enmity with many persons from different professions, including journalists.
“I have not got any bodyguard from the government yet. So, considering the security of my life, I bought a gun for TK 75,000 in Dhaka. There were 15 to 20 men when I bought the gun. Some of them might have captured the scene on camera and shared it on Facebook.” he added.
Bablu was elected lawmaker from Bogra-7 (Shajahanpur-Gabtoli upazila) constituency in the 2018 national elections after he contested as an independent candidate.
