The minister said the government is taking action against the culprits
Amid the ongoing protest against the sudden spike in the number of rapes around the country, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged the countrymen not to protest and to show patience.
He said: “The government is taking action against the culprits.”
The ruling party general secretary made the remark at a meeting of the Awami League central committee at the party's central office of Bangabandhu Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
“I will tell everyone to be patient. No need to protest. The government is handling the situation. The government is not releasing anyone involved. That is why the government is bringing the perpetrators to justice to solve the problem,” he said.
“I am telling everyone there is no need to protest. You just tell me where the misdeeds have taken place. If the government does not already know, then the government will investigate and take action,” Quader added.
The general secretary also said a culprit’s real identity is that he is a culprit, no matter who he is. A culprit doesn’t belong to any party.
He said Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted a zero tolerance policy against the criminals.
"Rape is a kind of social disorder. It is also a kind of terrorism,” added Quader.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, and other secretary level leaders were present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed Awami League’s organizational activities.
