Chittagong Range DIG meets Noakhali gang rape and torture survivor

After the meeting, DIG Anwar said to journalists that police are trying to bring the culprits to book fast

Deputy Inspector General of Chittagong Range Police Md Anwar Hossain in a meeting with the Noakhali gang rape and torture survivor have heard details of the heart-wrenching incident the woman survived about a month ago.

The meeting was held at the Begumganj Model police station in Noakhali around 10:30 on Tuesday.

Afterwards, he spoke with the relatives of the woman for about half an hour.

After the meeting, DIG Anwar said to journalists that police are trying to bring the culprits to book fast. Ensuring the security of the woman and her family is also another top priority for the police.

He further said that all other gangs similar to the Delowar Bahini (Delowar Gang) -- the gang of the suspects of the rape and torture -- would be brought to book.

Later in the afternoon, he visited the tin-shed house where the woman was tortured in Khalpar area of Eklashpur union in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila.

Video footage of five men stripping the woman and raping her using an object in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila went viral on social media platforms on Sunday and has been drawing widespread flak since then.

Locals said the incident took place at a certain Noor Islam’s house in Khalpar area of the upazila 20 or 25 days ago. However, they were unsure about the exact date of the assault.

According to the video and the locals, five youths Delowar, Badal, Kalam, Abdur Rahim along with an unnamed youth – all members of a criminal gang Delowar Bahini -- stripped the woman naked and brutally tortured her.
