An 80-year-old man reportedly raped a 12-year-old physically challenged girl in Naniarchar upazila, Rangamati on Sunday.
Police arrested the suspect Harunur Rashid from Islampur area of the upazila on Sunday night after a case was filed against him in this regard, said Naniarchar police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizan.
The girl's mother said: "My daughter is 12 years old. She is physically and mentally challenged. Her father was working in the field and I went to the market keeping my daughter alone at home.

“Finding an opportunity, the local old man Harunur had been raping her when I arrived home and saw the incident. He escaped when I began shouting and hitting him with a stick."
A Rangamati court recorded the girl’s statement by taking help from a school for mentally challenged people on Monday afternoon.
