A 12-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in Joypurhat.
The incident took place in Hajipara Mahalla under the municipality area on Sunday afternoon.
Police arrested the alleged rapist, Faruk Hossain, 47, at night after a case was filed in this connection.
Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahriar Khan said Faruk, a resident of the same area, enticed the girl away to a sugarcane field near his house and raped her.
Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot but Faruk managed to flee the scene.

The rape survivor was admitted to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital.
A case was filed against Faruk under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on Sunday evening and police apprehended him later, the OC added.
