On Sunday night, a 20-year-old woman was reportedly raped at the port city's Supariwala Para area
The police have held the prime accused of a rape incident from the Chittagong’s Patenga area.
The arrestee was identified as Chandu Mia, 35.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (West) Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
“The prime accused in connection with a rape incident was nabbed from the city’s Patenga area. He went into hiding following the incident,” said the police official.
Previously on Sunday night, a 20-year-old woman was reportedly raped at Supariwala Para area under Doublemooring police station in the city.
On Monday, Doublemooring police detained three persons, including a couple, on charges of assisting the rapist.
The detained couple was identified as Nuri Akhter and her husband Md Antar. The other detainee was identified as Rajib.
According to police, the woman came to her uncle’s house in the city’s Agrabad area from Feni district.
On Sunday night, a friend of her cousin brought the woman to her house in Supariwala Para around 8pm, where a man called Chandu Mia lived next door. At one stage, Chandu Mia took the woman to his home and violated her.
