The killer burned the victim’s body to ashes to get rid of proof
A woman was reportedly killed by her teenage son in Kalikabari village of Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj.
The accused is Akash Pandey, 16, a ninth grade student at Talimpur Telihati High School.
The court of Gopalganj's Senior Judicial Magistrate Humayan Kabir recorded his confessional statement on Friday afternoon.
The victim is Hashi Rani Pandey, 35, daughter of Juran Baroi, hailing from Madaripur, and the wife of Monoranjan Pandey, 37.
A team led by Gopalganj's Additional Superintendent of Police Md Sanwar Hossain arrested Akash after the incident took place about three months ago.
On the night of June 26, a dispute stirred between the victim and her son over a trifling matter, according to the confessional statement of Akash.
"At one point when I began shouting, my mother aggressively approached me with a Boti (food chopping blade). Then I hit her with firewood on the back of her head. The blow killed her. I got scared," Akash said.
"My sister had been sleeping in her room. Father was on his night guard duty in the Bhangarhat market. It was raining that night and no one was present nearby. I carried the body to a boat and burned it to ashes, half a kilometre away from our house," Akash added.
ASP Md Sanwar said: "After Monoranjan’s duty ended on the morning of June 27 he asked his son and daughter about his wife's whereabouts, and both of them replied that she had gone to her uncle's house."
Soon Monoranjon informed the police as he could not find his wife.
