Classes are continuing at some kindergartens and cadet madrasas in Rangpur despite government orders to keep all academic institutions closed till October 4.Reportedly social distancing measures are not maintained at these institutions and up to three students are crammed into a single bench.
The errant institutions are Genius Coaching Center, Tasirunnesa Kindergarten at Choudhurani Bazar in Koukori union, and Al Helal Cadet Madrasa at Momin Bazar of Annadanagar union of Pirgachha upazila.
Maulana Israfil Alam Helali, director of Al Helal Cadet Madrasa, said: “We are running the institution after discussing the matter with the administration. We have kept the madrasa open as the Hefz department of the madrasa is open.”
But this correspondent discovered upon inspection that instead of preaching Hefz, the madrasa is following the government syllabus. Moreover, 15 students and 8 students have been registered for the PSC and JDC exams respectively.
Meanwhile, Sabbir Ahmed, director of Genius Coaching Center said: “I closed my coaching center three days ago.”
But it this correspondent found classes were in session at the institution Monday morning.
Speaking on the issue, Syed Suja Mian, upazila secondary education officer, said: “If anyone keeps their educational institutions open defying government prohibition, we shall take legal action against them.”
Similarly, Atikur Rahman, upazila education officer, also said: “If anyone defies the government order to keep schools closed till October 4, 2020, and keeps their institutions running, we shall take legal action against them.”
But according to the family members of the students and the locals, no action has yet been taken against the accused institutions.
