The neighbour was arrested on rape charges while the latter three were arrested for trying to covering up the incident
An eighth-grader schoolgirl has reportedly been raped by her neighbour in Ghior upazila, Manikganj.
Police arrested four people--the suspected rapist, his parents and a village arbiter-- for trying to cover up the incident.
The accused, Rajib Rabi Das, 19, his father, Abu Rabi Das, 45, his mother, Josna Rani Das, 36, and a village arbiter of Baikunthapur, Md Tamesh Khan, 75.
The latter trio allegedly gave false hope of justice at an arbitration meeting to the girl’s family, asked them not to contact the police and in turn tried to cover up the incident.
However, informed by the family police went to the village and arrested the four people on Monday night, confirmed Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Ghior police station.
“We recorded the girl’s statement and sent her to a hospital for a check-up. The accused four have been sent to jail after being produced before the court,” he said.
On September 16, the girl went to collect water from a nearer tubewell when her neighbour Rajib lured her into his room and raped her.
Hearing her screams. locals rushed to spot and caught Rajib on the act, police sources confirmed.
