Chhatra Odhikar Parishad carries out protests, demands withdrawal of ‘false case’ against Nur, fellows

Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, Rangpur unit staged a demonstration at Rangpur protesting "false cases, detention and police action" against them, including former Ducsu vice-president Nurul Haque Nur.

The demonstration - -joined by hundreds of people-- took place on Wednesday afternoon in front of the Rangpur Press Club.

While demonstrating they called for countrywide protests over the issue and demanded withdrawal of all cases against the former Ducsu VP.

Before that, the protesters brought out a procession crossing the main parts of the city and staged a demonstration in front of the Press Club. 

The platform's District Convener Hanif Khan told Dhaka Tribune: “We have placed three demands: withdrawal of the case filed against us, the state must bear the treatment cost of the victims who were injured during police action yesterday, and our movement would not be hampered in the future.”

The protesters were also shouting slogans against the detention of its six members, among whom five were made accused in the case.

Nur, the former DUCSU VP, is the joint convener of the platform since a movement over reformation in the quota system in all class of government services in 2018.

On Sunday night, a DU student filed a rape case with Lalbagh police station accusing Nur and five members of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, police said.

Last night, Nur and six members of the platform were detained for protesting the filing of the case. They were later released.

The other five accused are, Hasan Al Mamun, convener of Bangladesh Shadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad; Nazmul Hasan Sohag and Saiful Islam, joint conveners of the platform; Nazmul Huda, vice-president of the platform; and Abdullah Hil Baki, a DU student.

Mamun is the main accused in the case, and Nur and the others were accomplices, according to police.

In the statement, the victim said that on January 3, Mamun called her to his home in Nababganj and raped her.
