Three people with the stabbing injuries were sent to a hospital in Dhaka
Five people including a general secretary of Jubo Dal were stabbed in a clash between two sections of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party while they were invited to a lunch on Monday.
The people who sustained stabbing injuries were: Himel Rana, Sabbir Hossain, Saddam Hossain, Rana Miya, and another.
According to police and eye-witnesses, leaders and activists of BNP went for lunch to the house of Habibur Rahman Habib, a candidate from BNP for the Pabna-4 by-polls.
Supporters of Chhatra Daal's former secretary Taslim Hasan Sweet and Jubo Daal's District Secretary Himel Rana initially locked into an altercation and later a fight broke out.
Ten others were injured when a chase-and-counter chase took place between the groups. Three people with the stabbing injuries were sent to a hospital in Dhaka for better treatment.
Both Taslim and Himel claimed they were not aggressors in the attack.
BNP by-polls candidate Habibur Rahman Habib said the incident occurred over a misunderstanding between the activists of Jubo Dal, and it is not related to the upcoming election.
Ishwardi police station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Nasir Uddin said: "I have heard about the clash between two BNP activists. No one has made any complaints to us regarding the matter. Police patrols were increased in the area to prevent any further untoward incident.”
