The arrestee defamed Shah Ahmad Shafi, according to the case statement
Police arrested a man from Fatullah in Narayanganj on Sunday in a case filed under the Digital Security Act on the allegations of defaming Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi on Facebook.
The arrestee was identified as Mufti Alauddin Jihadi, confirmed Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model police station, and said they arrested Alauddin from Fatullah’s Mahmudpur area at around 12pm.
Police arrested Mufti Alauddin Jihadi after Harunor Rashid; Khatib (chief imam) of Dewbhag Madrasa filed a case against him, the OC added.
Shah Ahmad Shafi, the chief of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, died on Friday while being treated at a Dhaka hospital, a day after stepping down as the director general of the Hathazari madrasa in Chittagong.
