Locals said the duo Nahid and Jahid had prior criminal history but managed to escape legal repercussions for their political influence
An Awami Jubo League leader sustained severe injuries on his left hand as Chhatra League leaders allegedly attack him over a dispute that reportedly occurred for as little as Tk20 in Satkhira.
The incident took place at the Itagachha area of Satkhira Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The victim Mujahidur Rahman Antu, general secretary of ward 7 Jubo League, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital as four fingers of his left hand were slashed to the bones after the attack.
Antu's father Abul Hasan lodged a case in connection with the incident at Satkhira Sadar police station accusing Nahid Hossain, president of ward 7 Chhatra League, Jahid Hossain, vice president of the same unit of Chhatra League, and their accomplice one Sohel Rana.
The accused people took Tk20 from Antu to pay bills at a tea stall over which a dispute had occurred between the trio and Antu, said Antu's father Abul.
On the same day, after Antu left the tea stall, four to five people including the three attacked him with sharp weapons, added Abul.
The attackers fled as locals rushed to the spot. Antu was initially admitted to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital and was later transferred to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) in Dhaka for better treatment, Abul further said.
Locals said the duo Nahid and Jahid had prior criminal history but managed to escape legal repercussions for their political influence.
Satkhira Sadar police station OC Asaduzzaman said people involved in the attack on Antu would be arrested in the shortest possible time.
