Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested the prime suspect in the murder of a woman who was recently found dead inside a launch cabin of Parabat 11 after it arrived at Barisal launch terminal from Dhaka.
The arrestee Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, 34, was arrested from Dhaka’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
Members of Barisal PBI, along with Dhaka PBI, tracked down the suspect using the launch’s CCTV footage and latest tracking technology, confirmed Humaiyun Kabir, superintendent of police, during a press briefing at Barisal city on Wednesday.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect confessed to strangling Jannatul Ferdous Laboni, who supposedly was his wife, to death with her scarf inside the cabin 391 of Parabat 11 launch.
On Monday, river police recovered Jannatul’s body from inside the cabin 391 of Parabat 11 launch after it arrived at Barisal launch terminal from Dhaka.
The next day, police handed over the body to her family after completing an initial inquiry at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Alok Chowdhury, sub-inspector of Barisal River port Sadar police station, filed a case over the incident.
