A man, allegedly involved in cattle smuggling, was reportedly shot by India's Border Security Force (BSF) on the Indian side along Sarkhira's Kalaroa border on Monday night.

The injured was primarily identified as Sumon, 25, of Goyra village in Satkhira's Kalaroa upazila.

Laltu, cousin of Sumon, said he heard over the phone that Sumon was shot at India's Kalanchi border area, opposite of Kalaroa's Chanduria.

Local sources near the border told this correspondent that after the man was shot, BSF initially took him to their camp and then to a hospital.

Nayeb Subedar Abdus Samad, commanding officer of Rudrapur Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp in Jessore said he heard that cattle smuggler Sumon was shot but could not confirm if the man is alive.
