The Minister for Social Welfare, Nuruzzaman Ahmed has inaugurated the expansion of a school and hostels in the residential area for sex workers’ of Baniashanta, Khulna.
The minister inaugurated the expansion for residential education and rehabilitation of children of Baniashanta in Dacope upazila of Khulna via video conference on Sunday noon.
The ceremony was held at the conference room of Khulna’s Deputy Commissioner’s office.
During his welcoming speech, the minister said that every child has the right to education.
He further explained the importance of education in the development of a nation and addressed the government’s initiatives to ensuring education to all and improving the living standards of the backward marginalized people.
Children are the future of the country, he said while pointing out that the government is doing everything to build a safe country, especially for children from marginalised families.
Honourable Whip of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, Panchanan Biswas, MP Gloria Jharna Sarkar and Director of Khulna Social Services Department Md Abdur Rahman. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain joined the event via video conference.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Golam Mainuddin Hasan, Deputy Director of Social Services Department Khan Mohammad Motahar Hossain, Executive Director of Private Development Agency Rupantar Swapan Kumar Guha, Former General Secretary of Khulna Press Club Mohammad Saheb Ali and freedom fighter Mohammad Alamgir Kabir spoke on the occasion.
Under the supervision of Khulna district administration office, the construction work will be implemented for the marginalised children of Baniashanta sex workers’ in Dacope. It will cost about Tk1.70 crore.
