'We directed the Fatullah police station to hand over all concerning documents to the CID officials before Thursday night'
Police have handed over the Narayanganj mosque explosion case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The case is very complex in nature. We have consulted the higher authority of the police and decided to hand over the case to the CID to ensure a proper investigation,” Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Md Jayedul Alam told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.
“We have instructed the Fatullah police station to hand over all documents related to the explosion to the CID officials,” he added.
Meanwhile, soon after the decision was taken, CID Inspector Babul Hossain, the new investigating officer, visited the Baitus Salat Jame Mosque with his team on Thursday.
They collected evidence and talked with the eyewitnesses to get an insight into the case.
“Primary investigation has started. We will try to complete our investigation soon and we can hold out the assurance that the people behind the incident will face consequences.,” Inspector Babul said.
He also said that senior CID officials would visit the site of the explosion on Saturday.
So far, 31 people, including a child, have died from burn injuries sustained in the blast, which occurred last Friday.
The five remaining victims currently undergoing treatment at the same hospital are in critical condition, said doctors.
