Bir Sreshtha Mostafa Kamal’s mother Maleka Begum was flown to Dhaka on Thursday afternoon for better treatment.
Earlier, she fell seriously ill and was admitted to Bhola General Hospital on Tuesday as her health condition deteriorated suddenly.
The 96-year-old was being treated at a VIP cabin reserved for freedom fighters at the hospital.
“Maleka Begum is suffering from breathing problems for a long time. She also has various other problems including kidney disease,” said Dr Siraj Uddin, the hospital’s administrator, on Wednesday afternoon.
The doctor advised to take her to Dhaka for better treatment.
Bir Sreshtha Mostafa Kamal’s nephew Md Selim said his grandmother’s limbs had swollen up and she needed to be taken to Dhaka immediately for advance treatment. However, her family could not afford it.
Therefore, Selim requested the prime minister to arrange better treatment for the Birmata (Bir Sreshtha’s mother).
Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning, Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Kaiser visited Birmata Maleka Begum at the hospital and inquired about her.
Maleka Begum lives with her eldest son and grandchildren in Mostafa Kamal Nagar area under Alinagar Mautupi village of Bhola Sadar upazila.
