A grandfather and his grandson were burnt to death while several others sustained injuries in a deadly fire that broke out in a slum in the city on Friday evening.
Mainur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Pahartali police station confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 65 and his grandson Md Rashed, 8.
According to Chittagong Fire Service, the fire broke out at 7:05 pm at a slum near Azampur Isphanai Rail Gate area under Pahartali police station.
On information, as many as 10 fire-fighting vehicles rushed to the spot and doused the fire at 8:45 pm.
However, the extent of damage and the cause of the fire could not be confirmed immediately.
Farid Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service told the Dhaka Tribune that the fire might have originated from a cooking stove.
Mainur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Pahartali police station said that some 40 shanties were gutted during the fire.
