Covid-19 positive cases reached 15493 in Ctg: The number of coronavirus positive cases crossed 15,493 mark as 141 new patients were diagnosed with the lethal virus after testing 825 samples at five laboratories in Chittagong district in the last 24 hours till 2 pm on Wednesday. “The total number of COVID-19 patient in the district now stands at 15493 till today,” said Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi. Of the newly detected 141 Covid -19 patients, 96 are residents of the port city and the rest 54 are from different upazilas of the district.

UP chairman held with 35 sacks of rice in Savar: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members detained a UP chairman along with 35 sacks of rice in Dhamrai upazila in Savar on Wednesday. Detained Mizanur Rahman Mizu was UP chairman of Jadavpur and a local Awami League leader. RAB-4 company commander additional superintendent of police Jamir Uddin Ahmed confirmed the matter. On information, police raided his house in the Amchimor area around 2 am and seized 35 sacks of rice, weighing 560kg, which was allocated from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s relief fund for the destitute.

Woman held with 63 NID cards in Netrokona: Police have detained a woman along with 63 NID cards at Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona district. The detained Kajal Akter, 40, is the wife of Abu Taher, of Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla district. Police detained her from in front of Akhaura temple in Hogla union on Tuesday afternoon. Purbadhala Police Station officer in-charge (OC) Towhidur Rahman said social welfare officer Saiful Alam, UNO Umme Kulsum and election officer Farid Uddin were informed of this.

Madrasa girl under acid attack in Rajshahi: A madrasa student sustained burn injuries after some unidentified miscreants hurled acid on her at Bautia-Narayanpur village in Godagari upazila on Tuesday night. The victim is Suma Khatun, 15, daughter of Selim Reza, and an Alim student of Bautia Islamia Madrasa. Md Khairul Islam, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, said that a group of miscreant hurled acid on Suma’s face through the window while she was watching television with her aunt. She was admitted to the Burn Unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The OC said that a police team visited the spot.
3 hospitals get health safety equipments/ingredients in Khulna: The authorities of three Covid-19 dedicated hospitals of Khulna district have received various health protective ingredients at Journalist Humayun Kabir Balu auditorium of Khulna Press Club (KPC) on Wednesday through the personal initiative of the parliament member of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, nephew of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Khulna City Awami League (AL) distributed three High Flow Humidifier and three Oxygen Concentrator and other health safety ingredients to the Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH), Khulna General Hospital and Khulna Diabetic Hospital authorities. Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque handed over the machines and health safety ingredients to the concerned authorities during a function.
Denied money for drugs, youth ends life: A youth, said to be a drug addict, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling of his house in Madhabdi upazila, Narsingdi. According to information, Sohan Khandaker, 22, took the extreme step after his family refused to give him money for buying drugs. He reportedly severed his hands out of agony and finally took his life on Tuesday morning, family sources said. Subal Chandra, sub-inspector of Madhabdi police station, said: “Being informed by the family, we recovered Sohan’s dead body from the house and sent it for autopsy at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.”
