Two people, including a child, were killed and three others injured in a road accident on the Manikganj–Hemayetpur Regional Highway Friday night.
The deceased were identified as Ashraf Khan, 50, son of Asalat Khan of village Mitora under Manikganj Sadar upazila of the district and Abdullah, 8, son of Abdul Jalil of village Bortala under Sreepur upazila of Magura district.
Quoting locals Singair police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam said the accident occurred when a Savar-bound pickup van collided head-on with a Manikganj-bound motorcycle at around 8pm Friday, causing the pickup van to fall into a canal on the side of the road with all its passengers.
Though all the passengers of the van were able to climb out, the boy Abdullah went missing. After two hours of searching, firefighters along with locals recovered the body of Abdullah.
Meanwhile Ashraf Khan, the motorcycle rider was rushed to Savar Enam Medical College hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
