The seven law enforcers are now in jail after court denied bail in the case filed by the slain army officer’s family
Bangladesh Police has suspended seven policemen, including former Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das and Inspector Liakat Ali, following the death of retired Bangladesh Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan in a reported police firing.
Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune on Friday that Pradeep and Liakat were suspended by the Bangladesh Police headquarters.
“Sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakkhit, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Liton Miah and constables Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, and Abdullah Al Mamun have also been suspended by the district police,” said the Cox’s Bazar police chief.
Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain said in the case number: 9/2020, with CR case number: 94/2020 (Teknaf) the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Teknaf rejected the bail petition of seven police members of Cox’s Bazar district who are accused in the case and sent them to jail.
On July 31 around 9pm Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed at Shamlapur checkpost of Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf marine drive in Baharchara union.
On August 5, Sinha’s sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a case with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court of Teknaf against nine people including Pradeep Kumar Das and Liakat Ali.
On August 6, the seven accused surrendered and prayed for bail at Senior Judicial Magistrate Muhang Helal Uddin’s court but were denied bail and sent to jail.
Later, based on the plea of the investigating officer (IO) the same court granted a seven day remand for Pradeep Kumar Das, Liakat Ali, Nanda Dulal Rakkhit and two days’ remand each for the other accused.
The RAB is investigating the case. They will submit the report within the next seven working days.
