A group of motorcyclists barred his private vehicle to pass and pulled him out on gunpoint on Monday
A case has been filed naming four and another four to five unnamed people involved in the attack on journalist Manik Mianji in Noakhali.
The plaintiff of the case, journalist Abdul Malek alias Manik Mianji -- reporter of CNN International and former staff reporter of Dhaka Tribune -- has filed the case with Sudharam Model police station on Tuesday evening.
Sudharam police station Inspector, Tomas Borua said, police are making drives to different areas of the district to arrest the accused people, but no one has been arrested till the filing of this report on Wednesday 10pm.
The case statement says, Manik was returning to his home through the Nalua Bazar area of Dadpur union when a group of motorcyclists barred his private vehicle from passing and pulled him out at gunpoint on Monday around 10pm.
The attackers consisting of eight to nine people, led by Sujon, 28, and Hridoy Hasan, 25, assaulted him, vandalised his vehicle and looted his valuables, Manik said.
Afterwards, the injured man was able to take refuge in a neighbouring house and got admitted into a hospital.
The attackers also took away Tk55,000 in cash, important documents including ID cards from the plaintiff, the case statement says.
Contacted, Superintendent of Noakhali Police, Alamgir Hossain said: “All legal action will be taken regarding the incident. Sudharam Model police has been directed to investigate the case.”
