All the organizational activities of Habiganj district Chhatra League has been suspended by the central committee.
The directive was issued through a circular signed by Chhatra League Central Committee President Al-Nahean Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee on Thursday.
“The committee has been suspended as allegations surfaced. Centrally, we are investigating it, without forming any probe body,” General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee told Dhaka Tribune.
“Mahtabuor Alam Jappy was also suspended after he accepted the charges,” Lekhak added.
The circular said all organizational activities of Habiganj district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League was suspended until further notice.
The district committee will be dissolved if the allegations are found to be true, he said adding: “Jappy will also be expelled for lifetime if the allegation brought against him is proved.”
Jappy accused the Habiganj Chhatra League President Saidur Rahman and General Secretary Mahibur of taking Tk20 lakh from a Chhatra League member promising to give him the post of Madhabpur Chhatra League general secretary, Habiganj Chharta League General Secretary Mahibur Rahman Mahi said.
On July 28, the two accused, in a press conference at the Habiganj Press Club, denied the allegations dismissing those as completely false, fabricated, and baseless.
They also said a group inside the organization was spreading propaganda against them mainly to tarnish their images.
