Three of the deceased were children
At least nine people have been killed in separate road accidents in four districts around the country.
The accidents took place on Sunday morning. Three of the deceased were children.
In Comilla, at least four people have been killed in a road accident on the Comilla-Sylhet Highway in Burichong upazila.
The incident took place around 11am on Sunday when a Sylhet bound truck collided head-on with a Comilla bound three-wheeler and killed four of its passengers, locals say.
Two of them died on the spot and two died while undergoing treatment at the local hospital, said Molla Mohammed Shahin, additional superintendent of Comilla Highway police.
The deceased people are yet to be identified, added the officer.
In Gaibandha, a rickshaw-van puller and a child have been killed on the spot when the rickshaw they were riding was crushed by a speedy microbus.
The incident took place on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway, near Polashbari upazila around 10am on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, Gobindaganj Highway police outpost OC Abdul Kader Jilani said: “The mother of the child was also critically injured and undergoing treatment at a local hospital.”
“We are making drives to catch the driver of the microbus,” added the OC.
In Rangpur, a motorcyclist and his niece were killed after a speedy truck hit and ran them over on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway under Mithapukur upazila.
The deceased, Lavlu Miah and his niece Jui, 9, were on a motorcycle that was crushed by the truck from behind that killed them on the spot, said Mithapukur police station OC Zafar Ali.
We are trying to arrest the driver of the truck, added the officer.
In Satkhira, a three-year-old child was killed in an accident when a three-wheeler hit and ran him over in Tala upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased, Siam Hossain, 3, son of Shahbuddin Morol, died on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital, confirmed Tala police station OC Mehedi.
