Police arrested nine villagers accused in a case and sent them to jail
A woman has been beaten and her hair was cut by a local influential and his supporters after they suspected the woman to be involved in an "immoral" relationship in Pabna.
The incident took place in Kukragari village of Chatmohar upazila on Tuesday night after which the woman filed a case against 17 people and a few others without naming them.
Chaikola Union Parishad (UP) member Abdul Wahab has not been named in the case although police saw him at the incident spot when they rescued the woman.
Police on Wednesday arrested nine villagers accused in the case and sent them to jail for further legal actions, confirmed Chatmohar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam.
The arrested were Rejaul Karim Manju, 40, Motaleb Hossain, 40, Alif Hossain, 32, Jamin Uddin, 32, Muktar Hossain, 34, Alam Hossain, 40, Kalu Pramanik, 30, Aynal Hossain, 40, and Mamun Hossain, 30.
According to locals, UP member Abdul Wahab and other villagers detained the married woman and a 38-year-old man after allegations of immoral relationship were brought up against them.
Both the man and woman accused by locals were beaten after which the woman's hair was cut and police rescued her as she was tied to a tree.
According to the case statement, the man owed the woman Tk1,000. The woman went to his home on Tuesday to collect the money, when locals saw them talking and accused them of having an immoral relationship.
