Jessore 6 and Bogra 1 fell vacant following the deaths of Awami League MPs Ismat Ara Sadique and Abdul Mannan respectively
Awami League (AL) nominated candidates secured victories in the Bogra-1 and Jessore-6 by-elections by a big margin of votes on Tuesday.
In Bogra-1 (Sariakandi-Sonatola) constituency, Awami League (AL) nominated Sahadara Mannan bagged 145,295 votes while his nearest rival, independent candidate Yasir Rohomotullah Entaz, got 1,563 votes in the by-election, said Returning Officer Mahabub Alom Shah.
Around 45.57 percent of votes were cast in the by-election. There are 330,918 voters in the constituency.
In Jessore-6 (Keshobpur) constituency, Awami League nominated candidate Shaheen Chaklader won the by-polls.
Shaheen Chaklader bagged 1,24,003 votes, with a total of 1,29,067 people voting in the election. The BNP nominated candidate obtained 2,012 votes and the Jatiya Party candidate secured 1,678 votes.
District Election Officer Bazlur Rashid confirmed the results.
Jessore 6 and Bogra 1, which fell vacant following the deaths of Awami League MPs Ismat Ara Sadique and Abdul Mannan respectively, had been supposed to go to the polls on March 29 according to the election schedules announced initially.
But the Election Commission had to postpone the election schedules in the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
The Election Commission later announced a fresh schedule for the parliamentary by-elections, fixing July 14 for the casting of votes.
