Six people were killed and seven others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Lalmonirhat, Panchagarh, and Nilphamari districts on Thursday morning.
In Lalmonirhat, four people were killed and six others injured in Patgram and Hatibandha upazilas during a thunderstorm in the morning.
Two people were killed and two others injured while they were fishing during a thunderstorm at Islampur village in Patgram upazila in the morning.
The deceased were identified as Jahedul Islam, 26, son of Khandaker Ali and Rakib Hossain, 24, son of Zahir Uddin of the village.
Two men died on the spot and the injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, confirmed Sumon Kumar, officer-in-charge of Patgram police station.
In another incident, two people were killed and four others injured while they were also fishing during the thunderstorm at Tongbhanga in Hatibandha upazila.
The deceased were identified as Mantu Miya, 40 and Md Ati, 38, son of Abdul Hamid of Bejgram in the upazila, confirmed Faruk Hossain, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha police station.
In Panchagarh, a farmer and his cow were killed on the spot after being struck by lightning in Boda upazila.
The deceased was identified as Mahesh Chandra, 55, son of Mahendra Nath Roy of Kaharpara village in Boda upazila.
Mahesh was working on his cropland when lightning struck him dead, said Abu Haider Md Ashrafuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Boda police station.
In Nilphamari, a woman died while her husband was critically injured after they were struck by lightning in Domar upazila.
The deceased Fatema Begum, 45, and her husband Abdur Mannan, 50, were fishing at a nearby waterbody when the incident took place, confirmed Domar police station OC Md Mostafizur Rahman.
Fatema died on the spot, while Mannan was taken to the upazila health complex with critical injuries, he added.
