A 28-year-old man has been killed in a turf war between a local Jubo League leader and a drug dealer in Puranbazar area of Chandpur.
The deceased, Shamim Gazi, 28,--who worked as a receptionist of Hotel Grand Hilsa-- was returning to his home through the area when the clash broke out on Monday and the perpetrators killed him, said the family sources.
Earlier, on Saturday, back-to-back clashes broke out in the area after Jahir, organizational secretary of local Jubo League wing, got engaged in a dispute with a local drug trader named Helal. The clash continued on Sunday when followers of the groups hacked at the youth and critically wounded him, and also left 15 more injured, police sources say.
“My innocent son was returning home when the perpetrators attacked and critically injured him. Later he died while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday morning,” said Tajul Sarder, father of the deceased.
Contacted, Chandpur Model police station OC Nasim Uddin, said: “Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to control the situation. We also needed to open fire to discourage the followers of the two groups.”
Asked about the death, he said: “No complaints have been filed so far. We are making drives in the area to arrest the responsible people behind the murder.”
