As of Sunday, Chittagong had recorded 7689 confirmed Covid-19 cases
Amid surging coronavirus cases and fatalities, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will set up a Covid-19 isolation center in the port city of Chittagong.
The existing 50-bed BGMEA hospital at Saltgola area of the city will be turned into an isolation center for treating Covid-19 patients.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, BGMEA Director Enamul Aziz Chowdhury said that the isolation center would commence operations by July 2.
“We have taken all-out preparations to launch the facility. A team of 22 healthcare professionals, including six physicians, will work at the 16,000-square feet facility. We have already obtained necessary permission from the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to run the hospital for treating Covid-19 patients,” said the BGMEA director.
“Apart from apparel workers and their relatives, local residents will also receive treatment from the hospital free of cost. The facility will be equipped with high flow nasal cannula,” said the BGMEA Director, adding that the association had a plan to set up a sample collection booth and a Covid-19 testing laboratory.
As of Sunday, Chittagong had recorded 7689 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
Of them, 169 patients have already died of the deadly viral disease.
