A giant Bagha Ayer and a Pangas fish , weighing respectively around 39kg, and 19kg were netted from the Padma river in Rajbari's Daulatdia early on Monday.
Fish trader Md Shahjahan bought the Bagha Ayer at Tk1,100 per kg while trader Md Chandu Molla bought the Pangas fish at Tk1,200 per kg.
The fishes turned many heads when those were brought at the Daulatdia Ferry ghat for sale in the morning.
Md Shahjahan said he made a profit of Tk3,900 by selling the fish to a trader in Barisal.
Meanwhile, Md Chandu said he is expecting to sell the fish at Tk1,300 per kg within Monday as he has been selling some large Pangas for the past few days.
Md Rezaul Sharif, acting fisheries officer in Goalanda Upazila, Rajbari, said: "Large catches in Padma this season are not rare. But such a large Bgha Ayer is netted for the first time this season."
