A member of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) was shot dead in Paglipara village of Kaptai upazila, Rangamati.
The deceased, Pramix Chakma, 40, was a collector for JSS’s Santu Larma’s group and was shot by some unidentified gunmen around 10am on Monday morning, police and local sources said.
“Pramix was a regular customer at my tea stall and was chatting with me when three outlaws came and opened fire on him,” said Natun Chandra, owner of the tea stall.
"When he sought refuge in my shop they broke it down, shot him dead, and returned to the nearby hill as if nothing had happened," added the tea stall owner.
Locals said they are frightened and living in constant fear of terror attacks by the outlaws again.
While family members are suspecting the involvement of his rivals from the opposition party, none of the parties have given any statements on the matter, reports our correspondent.
“We heard about the incident and sent a police team to the area to investigate the incident,” said Md Sufi Ullah, additional superintendent of police, Rangamati zone.
“We sent the body to a hospital for autopsy and a case filing is underway,” said Kaptai police station OC Nasir Uddin.
