Police primarily suspect she might have been raped before being strangulated to death
A garment worker was reportedly strangled to death after being raped in Gondogram Buritola area of Shajahanpur upazila, Bogra early Friday.
The deceased, identified as Mim Akhtar,19 was the resident of Bogra's Thunthunia area, said Sonatan Chakroborty, additional superintendent of police (Bogra Sadar circle).
Victim’s mother said Mim was returning to her mother in Bogra on Thursday night.
According to the family members, Mim, a worker at Green Life Knit Composite Ltd in Savar's Ashulia tied the knot with her colleague Ripon five months ago.
However, after the marriage, Ripon has been barring her from joining work which led to marital conflict between husband and wife.
On Thursday, Mim decided to return her mother at Thunthunia area in Bogra town and boarded a Bogra bound bus from Ashulia around 6pm on Thursday. However, husband Ripon took away Mim’s phone before she boarded the bus.
She contacted her mother using the phone of the bus supervisor. Later, at night Mim went missing and never returned home.
The bus supervisor told the victim’s mother that she had taken a rickshaw from Banani intersection at 12 am.
Speaking on the matter, Sonatan Chakroborty, additional superintendent of police (Bogura sadar circle), said: "We suspect Mim might have been raped before being strangulated to death. However, police are investigating the matter."
