It is assumed that the lawmaker was infected with the viral disease while distributing relief goods at his constituency during the lockdown
A Member of Parliament (MP) from Chittagong-16 constituency (Banshkhali) Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury along with 10 other members of his family have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
The lawmaker and his family are now in isolation at his Rahman Nagar residence in the city.
Personal Secretary to the MP Mostafizur Rahman Russell confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.
“Samples were collected from a total of 16 members of his family on June 1. The samples were tested at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) and the results came back positive for 11 persons including me. The other persons are MP’s wife, his three daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter and three domestic household helps,” said the PS.
“The lawmaker and his family members are now doing well. They have not developed any flu-like symptoms yet. It is assumed that the lawmaker was infected with the viral disease while distributing relief goods at his constituency during the lockdown,” added the PS.
According to the civil surgeon office, so far 3,669 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 in Chittagong.
