A man has been hacked to death allegedly by his rivals, in an act of revenge reportedly spurred by previous animosity in Pabna's Santhia upazila.

The deceased, Antor Hossain, 25, was accused in at least four criminal cases and had a long-standing feud with a local criminal group over establishing supremacy in Ganghati area of the upazila, said Ataikula police station OC Nasirul Alam.

The incident took place on Monday evening when Antor was taking a walk in his neighbourhood, the culprits attacked him  in the upazila's Ganghati Maniktola village following an altercation between the victim and the assailants, the OC claimed.

"The miscreants might have killed him over the previous enmity. We are investigating the incident and making drives to arrest the assailants," OC Nasirul Alam said.

Antor's hands were severed from the wrist during the attack, and when he screamed locals rescued the victim and took him to Pabna Medical College Hospital, sources said.

As he was in critical condition, the doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and he died while being taken to RMCH last night, the OC further said.

The body of the deceased has been kept at Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
