A 60-year-old man was arrested for raping a 7-year-old child and the rest five were arrested for raping two sisters
At least six people have been arrested in Munshiganj and Tangail for their reported involvement in separate rape cases filed in the districts.
In Munshiganj, a sixty years old man was arrested on Thursday noon for reportedly raping a seven-year-old child in Sreenagar upazila.
The accused, Siraj Bepari, came to the Sreenagar police station to file a case against the child’s family to scare them off so that they cannot take any legal action against him for the rape, police sources say.
“Sensing his lie, we made a drive to the area and found that he, in fact, is responsible in the rape of the child and we arrested him right then,” said OC Hedayetul Islam Bhuiyan of the police station.
“We also recovered a video clip of the rape from him and filing of a case is underway, added the OC.
In Thakurgaon, at least five accused of a gang rape case were arrested during overnight drives in different areas of Thakurgaon's Ranisankail upazila.
The arrests were made between midnight Tuesday and early Wednesday, police sources say.
The arrestees were sent to jail after police produced them before the Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Ariful Islam around 4pm Wednesday, said Khairul Anam, inspector (investigation) of Ranisankail police station.
The arrestees are Jahirul Islam, 28, of Khuddro Bashbari village; Rubel, 26, Upen Deb, 28; Foyjul Akhter, 35, of Mahalbari village; and Milon, 20, of Dakkhin Sandharoi village in the upazila.
Law enforcers are also looking for another accused Md Ashraful Islam, 28, who is from Jogtha village in Pirganj upazila.
Inspector Khairul Anam, also investigation officer of the case, said the victim aged around 17 years filed the case with the local police station yesterday.
According to the IO, six persons, including the five, raped the girl and her -15-year-old sister at Mahalbari yesterday.
Soon after the case was filed, police started the drive to nab the culprits, confirmed OC Abdul Mannan of the police station.
