Manikganj police arrested a man on Tuesday in Harirampur upazila for defaming Manikganj MP Momtaz Begum on social media.
The accused Firoz Al Mamun was arrested under the Digital Security Act. Police produced him before a court and sought a seven-day remand, confirmed Harirampur police station OC Muid Choudhury.
Acting on a tipoff, a police team arrested Firoz from his residence in Kaloi area. "Firoz posted offensive status comments about Momtaz on his Facebook account," the OC furthered.
Azim Khan, vice-chairman of Harirampur upazila council, filed the case under the Digital Security Act with Harirampur police station on May 9.
