Coronavirus: Rangamati no longer unaffected

Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University announced the results

Four patients have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus in Rangamati, making them the first confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the district. 

Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, where the samples were tested, announced the results on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr Mostafa Kamal, of the district Civil Surgeon’s office, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Previously, Rangamati was the only district unaffected by the coronavirus outbreak in Bangladesh, which was believed to be a result of the strong vigilance of the strict administration and maintaining adequate security measures.

Meanwhile, confirmed Covid-19 cases have crossed the 11,000 mark in Bangladesh as the country recorded the highest single-day cases with 790 more people testing positive in the last 24 hours.

With the latest figure, the number of total confirmed cases jumped to 11,719.

The country also witnessed deaths of three more people from Covid-19 over the same period, taking the number of fatalities to 186 in the country.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Additional Director General (Administration) Prof Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures through a daily online bulletin on Covid-19 situation from Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon.
