Retreating from his previous stance, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Md Jahangir Alam has urged people to offer prayers in the mosques on a limited scale, complying with the directives of the government and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
He made the recent announcement through a video clip from Gazipur City Corporation regional office on Wednesday.
“The Ministry of Religious Affairs has urged to offer prayers on a limited scale and we should abide by the directives,” the mayor said.
“We are not a hundred percent confirmed about the current status of coronavirus in Gazipur. Therefore, we should abide by the directives of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. We should prefer offering prayers at home,” the mayor said.
Previously on Tuesday, he announced to open the mosques in Gazipur city area.
