A suspected drug dealer has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Uttar Sheikhpur village of Sadar upazila, Joypurhat.
The deceased, Ekramul Hossain was accused in 18 different cases related to illegal arms, drugs, police assault and a top drug dealer of the area, RAB sources said.
A team of RAB made a drive on Wednesday to the area on a tip-off suspecting a huge drug trade, said Joypurhat RAB Camp Commander Mohaimenur Rahman.
“Sensing our presence, a group of drug dealers started firing at us and when retaliated they fled the spot,” said the RAB official.
“After the gunfight, we found the injured drug dealer and upon taking him to a hospital the duty doctor declared him dead,” added Mohaimenur.
Two members of RAB were also injured and two guns with bullets were recovered from the spot, RAB sources confirmed.
