The relief items were distributed among more than 2,000 temporary workers, the company COO said
Saif Powertec Limited, a public limited company engaged in power and material handling solutions, distributed relief material among day labourers working in the terminals of the Chittagong port on Thursday.
The relief materials were distributed among temporary workers who were engaged at Numbering Container Terminal (NCT) and Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) in the largest seaport of Bangladesh, to help them during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Chittagong Port Authority member (administration and planning) Md Zafar Alam distributed the relief items, while Saif Powertec Chief Operating Officer (COO) Captain Tanvir Hossain was present there, among others.
Tanvir Hossain said they distributed the relief items among more than 2,000 temporary workers.
“We arranged three buses to facilitate the communication for NCT and CCT staff. They were picked up from different points of the city. The buses collected workers from Kathgarh, Bahaddarhat and Ologker areas,” he said.
“We have taken various initiatives to protect the workers from the spread of coronavirus pandemic. We are providing sanitizers and masks to them. We have also formed a special monitoring team including doctors to examine the health conditions of the workers,” Tanvir Hossain said.
Earlier, the company came forward to help maintain the operations of loading and unloading cargo goods at the port.
