Nor’wester in Narsingdi leaves girl dead in wall collapse; 2 hurt

The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital

A teenage girl was killed and her two sisters were injured when a wall of their house collapsed on them during a nor’wester in Narsingdi district town.

The deceased was identified as Yasmin, 14, daughter of Yasin, a local tea seller and an inhabitant of Baniayachong Balurchar area in the town.

Syeduzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of sadar police station, said the nor’wester had lashed the town from 5pm.

The wall suddenly collapsed on the three sisters while they were taking rest inside their house, severely injuring all of them. 

Critically injured Yasmin died on the way to Sadar Hospital while her siblings Rotna, 16, and Hasi, 10 are undergoing treatment.

Besides, the nor’wester destroyed houses, uprooted trees and caused severe damage to crops.

The affected upazilas are: Birpur, Boakund, Hajipur, Baniayachong, Taroa, Bhelanagar, Basail, Baghdi, Chaula, Shalidha and Brahmandi.

Communication was snapped and electricity supply also remained disrupted for two hours due to the havoc caused by the storm.
